Philippines Establishes Organizing Committee for Green Expo 2027 in Japan
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has officially formed an inter-agency Philippine Organizing Committee to spearhead the country's participation in the upcoming Green Expo 2027 in Japan. This strategic move, announced by Malacañang, underscores the administration's commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture, technological innovation, and the global showcasing of Philippine biodiversity and cultural heritage.
Committee Leadership and Membership
Under Administrative Order No. 41, issued on February 4, 2026, the Department of Agriculture has been designated as the chairperson of the Philippine Organizing Committee, with the Department of Tourism serving as vice chairperson. The committee's composition includes key government agencies essential for a comprehensive national effort.
- Department of Foreign Affairs
- Department of Trade and Industry
- Department of Science and Technology
- National Commission for Culture and the Arts
- Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions
Mandate and Responsibilities
The Administrative Order mandates the committee chairperson to convene regular meetings to ensure seamless coordination among all involved agencies. This is aimed at guaranteeing the Philippines' successful and impactful participation in the international exposition. The chairperson will act as the primary focal point for the Green Expo 2027, attending all required activities and performing necessary functions to represent the nation effectively.
Additionally, the committee is authorized to form subcommittees and designate lead agencies for specific thematic functions related to the expo. It may also engage representatives from government agencies, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and academic institutions to provide technical advice and support.
Alignment with National Development Goals
President Marcos emphasized that the country's involvement in Green Expo 2027 aligns with the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028. This participation supports the administration's goals of transforming the agriculture and production sectors towards greater sustainability and competitiveness. It also advances science, technology, and innovation as drivers of sustainable development.
Reporting and Support Mechanisms
The Philippine Organizing Committee is required to submit quarterly reports to the President, through the Executive Secretary, and to the Department of Budget and Management. A final report will be submitted after the conclusion of Green Expo 2027. These reports will detail expenses, income generated, accomplishments, economic impact, and policy recommendations derived from the participation.
AO 41 directs all concerned government agencies to extend full support to the committee and encourages local government units and the private sector to collaborate in ensuring the country's successful representation at the exposition.
