Mindanao's Largest Cold-Storage Facility Launches to Boost Regional Food Exports
Homegrown developer Damosa Land, Inc. (DLI) has achieved a significant milestone with the launch of what it describes as the largest cold-storage facility in Mindanao. Operated by GMAC Logitech Refrigeration Corporation, the facility officially opened at the Anflo Industrial Estate (AIE) on March 9, 2026. This project represents a major advancement in strengthening the region's logistics network and supporting Mindanao's burgeoning food export industry.
A Joint Venture to Enhance Cold-Chain Infrastructure
The facility is a strategic joint venture between Glacier Megafridge, Inc. and AC Logistics, aimed at expanding cold-chain infrastructure in the southern Philippines. It is projected to create approximately 119 new jobs across various sectors, including operations, engineering, quality control, and logistics. This development underscores a growing trend of private-sector investment in logistics infrastructure to address long-standing supply chain challenges in the country.
Ricardo Floirendo Lagdameo, president of Damosa Land, emphasized the significance of this addition. "The entry of GMAC Logitech Refrigeration Corporation into AIE highlights the continued confidence of leading industry players in Mindanao's growth potential," he stated. "This will be a welcome addition to the Davao Region and will also benefit nearby provinces. Our goal is to provide an end-to-end solution for customers who can now come directly to Davao when servicing Mindanao, given the availability of an efficient port facility and an industrial park that complements the new facility."
Addressing National Logistics Challenges
Erry Hardianto, chief executive officer of AC Logistics, pointed out the critical logistics issues facing the Philippines. "Logistics remains a challenging element in the archipelagic geography of the Philippines, with about 39% of GDP spent on the sector — one of the highest rates in Southeast Asia," he explained. He added that significant price gaps persist between goods sold in the provinces and those in Luzon. "To address this national challenge, GMI and AC Logistics formed GMAC in 2021," he noted.
Over the past decade, AIE has played a pivotal role in strengthening supply chains for Philippine banana exporters and other high-value crops by providing essential storage and logistics services that connect Mindanao producers to global markets. In 2025 alone, banana exports saw a remarkable 26% growth, underscoring the increasing demand for reliable cold-chain facilities.
Enhanced Capacity and Economic Impact
GMAC's new hub significantly increases handling capacity for perishable goods across Davao and nearby provinces. It also supports the storage and distribution of processed meat imports and exports throughout Mindanao. Located within the 63-hectare industrial estate, the facility boasts 11,728 pallet positions — the largest capacity in GMAC's Mindanao network — and can manage multiple temperature ranges for sensitive and controlled products.
This capability allows the industrial park to cater to a wider mix of tenants and enhances its appeal to both local and foreign investors. Arturo C. Yan, president and CEO of Glacier Megafridge, highlighted the collaborative effort behind the project. "This facility drives collaboration and shared resources to strengthen the food chain," he said. "With capital support and technical expertise from Ayala Corporation, together with land and corridor development led by Damosa Land and collaboration among DICT, AIE, and GMAC, we are creating a logistics ecosystem where goods move at the right time, place, and cost."
The launch of this cold-storage facility marks a transformative step in improving Mindanao's logistics framework, promising to boost economic growth, create employment opportunities, and solidify the region's position as a key player in the global food export market.
