The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has announced a reduction in transmission charges for end consumers this May, driven by lower transmission wheeling and ancillary services rates.
Rate Decrease Details
In a statement released on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, NGCP reported that the overall average transmission rate for the April 2026 billing period declined by 8.80 percent to P1.5983 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), down from P1.7526 per kWh in March. This reduction is attributed to a drop in both transmission wheeling charges and ancillary services (AS) rates.
Transmission Wheeling Charges
The transmission wheeling rate, which covers the cost of delivering electricity through the transmission network, decreased by 14.16 percent to P0.6028 per kWh from P0.7022 per kWh in the previous billing period. This significant reduction contributes to lower overall costs for consumers.
Ancillary Services Rates
Average ancillary services rates fell by 5.02 percent to P0.8088 per kWh from P0.8516 per kWh in March. Ancillary services are support services that NGCP sources from the Reserve Market and contracted providers to stabilize the power grid during supply-demand imbalances. These charges are passed on to consumers.
NGCP emphasized that for the May 2026 electric bill, end consumers will only be charged 60 centavos per kWh for the delivery of its services. The company also clarified that ancillary services continue to represent the largest portion of transmission charges. NGCP does not earn from AS rates, as these are remitted directly to generating companies, and it does not benefit from any movements in their prices.
