Pampanga's new irrigation canal to cut costs for farmers
Pampanga irrigation canal reduces farmer costs

The provincial government of Pampanga announced that a newly completed 560-meter concrete irrigation canal in Barangay Sto. Rosario, Candaba town will lower operating costs for farmers by providing a more efficient water supply to approximately 100 hectares of agricultural land.

Project details and funding

The Capitol stated that the ₱3.97-million project was implemented following a 2024 request from the Ilog Mae Bao Farmers Association. The concrete-lined canal is designed to allow water to reach farmlands faster, thereby reducing diesel consumption and improving overall irrigation efficiency.

According to the provincial government, the project directly benefits the association's 30 members, who cultivate 62 hectares of farmland, as well as other farmers in the surrounding community.

Impact on farming operations

Association chairman Ener Kabigting noted that the previous canal required more time and fuel to deliver water to their fields. The new infrastructure is expected to significantly cut these costs.

Vice Governor Dennis "Delta" Pineda, together with local officials and representatives of the farmers' association, inspected the project last week. The inspection underscored the government's commitment to supporting agricultural efficiency and reducing operational burdens on farmers.
