Philippines Has Sufficient Oil Supply, DOE Assures Amid Price Hike
PH Oil Supply Sufficient, DOE Says Amid Price Hike

The Department of Energy (DOE) has assured the public that the Philippines has sufficient oil supply and currently has no plans to order additional fuel, despite a new round of price increases on petroleum products implemented on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

DOE Statement on Fuel Supply

Energy Secretary Sharon Garin stated that a new fuel order is not necessary at this time because the country has adequate supply and limited storage facilities. She noted that 150 million liters of diesel have already been processed and are being used as a buffer.

Current Inventory Levels

According to DOE data, the Philippines has enough supply for 53.71 days. This includes gasoline (52.64 days), diesel (54.58 days), kerosene (166.67 days), jet fuel (71.14 days), fuel oil (62.69 days), and liquefied petroleum gas or LPG (40.46 days).

LPG Price Increase

In addition, the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is expected to rise by PHP 1.33 per kilogram this month, equivalent to an additional PHP 13.42 per 11-kilogram cylinder.

Electricity Supply and VAT Proposal

On the issue of electricity, Garin said the DOE supports the proposal to remove the value-added tax (VAT) on electricity to lower consumer costs, although the final decision rests with the Department of Finance.

Meanwhile, the DOE assured that the country has sufficient electricity supply even during the ongoing summer season, and it continues to monitor demand to prevent any shortage.
