A truck driver and his friend were arrested after being caught pickpocketing a Canadian national on the evening of Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Cebu Business Park in Barangay Apas, Cebu City.
Suspects Identified
The suspects were identified as alias Anton, 32, and alias Marichuy, 40, both residents of Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City. According to the Mabolo Police Station investigation, the victim was alias Cham, 32, a Canadian national.
Incident Details
It is believed that the suspects took the wallet from the victim's sling bag while he was about to board a jeepney. However, a concerned citizen witnessed the act, which quickly foiled their plan.
In an interview, alias Anton denied any knowledge of his friend's actions. He claimed that when they boarded the jeepney, the foreigner noticed his wallet was missing. As tension escalated inside the vehicle, the wallet suddenly fell near alias Marichuy, leading to further chaos until citizens performed a citizen's arrest.
The victim's wallet, containing various IDs and money, was recovered.
Legal Proceedings
The two suspects were immediately taken to the Mabolo Police Station. As of now, they remain in jail while theft charges are being prepared against them.
