Two men were arrested during a police operation at an illegal cockfighting event in Sitio Panabang, Barangay Apas, Cebu City on Sunday afternoon, April 26, 2026. The raid was conducted by personnel of the Mabolo Police Station at around 3:50 p.m.
Suspects Identified
The suspects were identified as Pacifico Cabanao Ramirez Jr., 53, a resident of Sitio Back GMA, Barangay Apas; and Ryan Dioso Suson, 40, a resident of Sitio Nivel Hills, Barangay Busay, Cebu City. Police recovered two injured fighting cocks, gaffs, and PHP 500 in bet money from the scene.
The Mabolo Police Station received a phone call from residents reporting that an illegal cockfighting event was being held in an open area in their neighborhood, causing noise and disturbance. Police immediately responded, but approximately 50 gamblers noticed the authorities and fled in different directions.
However, Suson and Ramirez, who were about to release their roosters for another fight, failed to escape and were apprehended by the police. The two suspects were taken to the Mabolo Police Station and are set to face charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 (Illegal Gambling).
