Two Nabbed for Selling Unauthorized Slimming Coffee in Cebu

Two women allegedly selling slimming instant coffee without a permit from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) were arrested in an entrapment operation by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Mandaue City Field Unit on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 1:24 p.m. on Leon Kilat Street, Barangay Pahina Central, Cebu City.

Suspects Identified and Products Seized

The suspects were identified as alias Gera, 39, from Beltran Subdivision, Barangay Quiot, and alias Grace, 35, from Sitio San Vicente, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City. Seized from them were five large cartons of slimming instant coffee valued at approximately P200,000.

The operation was conducted by CIDG-Mandaue City Field Unit personnel together with a representative from the FDA-Regional Office 7.

Investigation and Operation Details

According to CIDG-7 investigation, they received information that a beauty products store was selling “Baian 3-in-1 Slimming Instant Coffee” under the brand name “Lishou” without authorization from the FDA. Police verified the information and conducted the operation, resulting in the arrest of the two vendors and the seizure of the products.

Legal Consequences

The two arrested individuals will face charges for violation of Republic Act No. 9711, also known as the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009.
