18 Ex-Marines to Submit New Affidavits to Senate Probe

Attorney Levi Baligod, representing 18 individuals who identified themselves as former members of the Philippine Marines, announced that they will submit new, more complete, and more detailed affidavits to the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee. Baligod attended the hearing of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee led by the Cayetano bloc concerning alleged anomalies in flood control projects.

Baligod's Statement

According to Baligod, some former soldiers claimed that the National Bureau of Investigation made them sign their affidavits before he had a chance to review them. “We will create individual affidavits that are more complete,” Baligod told the media.

Senator Imee Marcos' Reaction

Meanwhile, Senator Imee Marcos expressed her reaction, calling for caution and continued clarification on the emerging allegations. “They have surfaced. But I hope they remain safe… I hope it continues. Let us explain what is happening,” she said, warning that “cover-up is worse than the crime.”

Senator Loren Legarda's Stance

In a separate statement, Senator Loren Legarda emphasized the importance of continuing work amid the existing tension within the Senate. “We must work,” was Legarda’s brief response when asked about holding hearings despite the leadership conflict.

Further submission of documents and possible amendments to previous testimonies are expected as the investigation by the Cayetano and Gatchalian bloc into the flood control scandal continues.
