Consumer Group Slams Electric Cooperative's Disruptive Exit Following Court Order

The Davao Consumer Movement has issued a forceful condemnation of the Northern Davao Electric Cooperative's recent actions, describing them as a messy and irresponsible abandonment of its main office. This follows the enforcement of a Writ of Possession issued by the Regional Trial Court of Tagum City, Branch 2, which legally transferred control to Davao Light.

Court-Ordered Transition Ignored

On March 25, 2026, Davao Light officially assumed control of four substations and Nordeco's primary office located in Tipaz, Magugpo, Tagum City. However, video evidence reveals that Nordeco vacated the building without handing over critical assets. While their voluntary departure might seem cooperative on the surface, leaving the office completely empty demonstrates a blatant disregard for the court's directives and, more significantly, for the consumers who rightfully own these resources.

The substations, office building, equipment, and records are consumer property. By stripping the premises of computers, hard drives, servers, and essential documents, Nordeco acted in direct opposition to the court's orders. These assets could have significantly accelerated the transition process and ensured a smoother, more efficient service delivery for all consumers.

Betrayal of Consumer Trust and Welfare

Instead of facilitating progress, Nordeco's actions have caused unnecessary delays and severely undermined consumer welfare. The cooperative's refusal to cooperate is not merely irresponsible; it represents a profound betrayal of the very consumers it is supposed to serve. By withholding these vital assets, Nordeco continues to hold consumers hostage, preventing them from accessing reliable and affordable electricity under Davao Light's more advanced and modernized system.

The Davao Consumer Movement is now urgently calling on Nordeco to cease these disruptive tactics immediately. The group emphasizes that the cooperative must prioritize the welfare and rights of its consumers above all else, ensuring a swift and compliant transition that respects legal authority and serves the public interest.
