Man arrested for damaging sister's wall after hearing voices

A 23-year-old construction worker helper was arrested by his own sister after he allegedly attacked the concrete wall of their home in Sitio Upper Torre, Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City, around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

The suspect, identified as Elmar Dawa Badana, single, a resident of the area, is now detained at the Inayawan Police Station and faces a charge of malicious mischief. The complainant is his elder sister, Rosalie Dawa Badana, 30.

Sister sought help from neighbors and barangay tanods

According to the police report, Rosalie first sought help from neighbors and barangay tanods after her brother suddenly started acting aggressively. The suspect repeatedly struck the concrete wall of their house and shouted that he would kill his sister and others.

Fearing for her safety, the victim asked neighbors and barangay tanods for assistance, leading to Elmar's arrest and turnover to the Inayawan Police Station.

Suspect claims voices urged him to act

In an interview with SunStar SuperBalita Cebu, Elmar admitted that he was angry at his sister and their neighbors because he claimed they constantly gossiped about him and made unpleasant remarks.

“Someone whispered to me, a 'Tomboy' (lesbian), that I should hit them because they were also gossiping about her,” Elmar said.

He stated that he did not see the person whispering but heard the voice. He added that wherever he went, he would immediately learn that he was being talked about again.

He further claimed that the same person told him to get a pipe, which led him, in his anger, to strike the concrete wall of his sister's house.

“I got pissed off because when I passed by, they were gossiping about me again,” Elmar said.

Despite his actions, the suspect apologized and expressed hope that his sister and neighbors would forgive him.
