Major Pampanga Raid Seizes P5 Million in Illegal Foam and Mattresses
In a significant enforcement action, authorities confiscated more than P5 million worth of illegal foam and mattresses during a targeted raid in Minalin, Pampanga. The operation, carried out on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, underscores ongoing efforts to uphold consumer safety and product standards in the region.
Coordinated Operation Leads to Arrests and Seizure
The raid was executed by operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Regional Field Unit 3 and the CIDG Pampanga Provincial Field Unit, in close coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Targeting a warehouse located in Barangay Sta. Maria, the operation resulted in the seizure of 1,956 pieces of assorted foam and mattresses, with an estimated total value of P5,051,130.
Police apprehended two suspects during the raid, identified only as "Shao" and "Lin," who are alleged to be the owner and manager of the warehouse, respectively. Appropriate charges are currently being prepared against the duo for violations of Philippine laws, specifically focusing on consumer protection regulations.
Violations of Consumer Act and Government Response
Investigators revealed that the operators failed to comply with the minimum labeling requirements and standards for consumer products as mandated under Republic Act No. 7394, also known as the Consumer Act of the Philippines. This law is designed to safeguard consumers from substandard and potentially hazardous goods.
Major General Robert Morico II, CIDG Director, emphasized that this operation is a key component of the government's broader initiative to protect consumers and enforce product standards. He commended the CIDG Regional Field Unit 3 and the Pampanga Provincial Field Unit for their successful execution of the raid, highlighting their dedication to public safety.
Morico reassured consumers that authorities will persist in enforcing laws to shield them from illicit products and services. He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their communities, reinforcing the importance of community involvement in maintaining safety and compliance.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks posed by non-compliant products and the critical role of regulatory enforcement in ensuring market integrity and consumer trust.
