Davao Light Confirms Stable Power Supply, Debunks Outage Fears
In a recent press briefing, Davao Light and Power Company (Davao Light) has firmly dismissed circulating reports of potential rotational power outages, assuring consumers that electricity supply in its franchise area remains robust and reliable. The company emphasized that these claims are inaccurate and urged the public not to panic over unverified information spreading online.
Official Assurance Amidst Concerns
During a Davao Peace and Security Press Corps briefing on April 8, 2026, spokesperson Fermin Edillon stated that power supply in Mindanao is stable, with no interruptions expected. He clarified in a mix of English and local language, "Walay power outages mahitabo mahitungod plantsado ang supply sa Mindanao (There will be no power interruptions as supply in Mindanao remains stable)." This assurance aims to alleviate public anxiety and reinforce confidence in the region's electricity services.
Mechanisms for Continuous Supply
Edillon highlighted that Davao Light maintains bilateral contracts with power suppliers, ensuring a steady and uninterrupted flow of electricity. Additionally, the company can source power from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) during emergencies, providing a backup to prevent disruptions. Based on internal simulations, he noted that there is no significant impact on power rates, and any adjustments would be minimal, not substantially affecting monthly bills.
Addressing External Factors and Consumer Guidance
In response to concerns about global events, Edillon asserted that conflicts in the Middle East have no influence on electricity prices in the area. Davao Light also guaranteed that there will be no sudden or significant increases in electricity rates. The company encouraged consumers to practice responsible energy use and to rely on its official platforms for updates and energy-saving tips, promoting transparency and community engagement.
