DOE Announces Major Fuel Price Rollback for April 14

The Department of Energy (DOE) has announced a substantial fuel price rollback scheduled to take effect this coming Tuesday, April 14, 2026. In a recent Facebook post, Energy Secretary Sharon Garin revealed estimated reductions of P20.89 per liter for diesel, P4.43 per liter for gasoline, and P8.50 per liter for kerosene.

DOE Estimates Based on International Market Data

Secretary Garin explained that these projections are derived from the average international prices over the past five days, compared to the average from the previous week. "These are the DOE estimates for the price rollback starting Tuesday, April 14," Garin stated, emphasizing the data-driven approach behind the forecast.

Long-Term Impact of Infrastructure Damage

During a radio interview, Garin provided further context, noting that while tensions have eased, the structural damage to oil facilities caused by conflicts involving the United States, Israel, and Iran will have lasting effects. She indicated that it is unlikely prices will return to previous levels, such as P60 per liter for diesel, anytime soon.

"If the war lasted only two weeks, prices would drop. But the structural damage has already been done. It will take a long time to fix the facilities. Prices may decrease, but not as quickly as they rose. We might not reach levels like before, with diesel at P60 pesos per liter here," Garin elaborated. This insight highlights the complex interplay between geopolitical events and local fuel economics, suggesting a prolonged recovery period for the energy sector despite the immediate price relief.
