The consumer advocacy group Alliance of Concerned Consumers in Electricity and Social Services (Access) has publicly commended Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) for its decisive relief measures in the aftermath of Typhoon Tino.
Financial Relief for Affected Consumers
Access President, Wennie Sancho, highlighted the power company's critical announcement: there will be no power disconnections and no penalties for unpaid electricity bills covering the period from November 4 to December 31, 2025. This move provides significant economic relief for households struggling to recover from the storm's devastation.
Sancho explained that as Typhoon Tino ravaged the region, causing widespread destruction and prolonged power outages, Negros Power immediately focused on restoration. However, the company's approach was notably holistic, recognizing that restoring power was intrinsically linked to restoring lives and livelihoods.
A key initiative praised by the consumer group is the flexible payment terms for households consuming 100 kWh or less. By offering extended payment deadlines without any penalties, Negros Power has given these families crucial breathing room during a difficult time.
Support Beyond Financial Measures
Beyond the financial reprieve, Negros Power also extended direct support to community welfare. On November 17, 2025, the company provided aid to families in Negros Occidental affected by the typhoon, turning over 100 sacks of rice (25 kilos each) to Arnel Argusar, head of the province's General Services Office (GSO).
Sancho stated that this donation reflects the company's deep commitment to assisting in the community's recovery and rebuilding efforts. He saluted Negros Power for its tireless work in not only restoring electricity but also providing essential relief.
A Model for Corporate Responsibility
According to Sancho, the actions of Negros Power exemplify the true spirit of corporate social responsibility. Their understanding and empathy have eased the immense financial burden on countless households.
He expressed hope that their example would inspire other corporations to follow suit, fostering a more resilient and compassionate community. As Central Negros embarks on its journey to recovery, the people are grateful for the unwavering support of Negros Power, a true ally in times of need.
In related news, Negros Power announced that the average residential electricity rate for November 2025 is P12.23 per kWh, a slight adjustment from the previous month. The commercial rate for the same period is P12.28 per kWh.
