NUSTAR Cebu Switches to COREnergy for Reliable Power Supply
NUSTAR Cebu Picks COREnergy as New Power Supplier

In a strategic move to bolster its operational resilience, the prominent NUSTAR Resort & Casino Cebu has officially selected COREnergy as its new retail electricity supplier. The partnership, announced on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, is designed to meet the integrated resort's growing energy demands and ensure a stable power supply for its daily activities.

A Partnership for Growth and Stability

The shift to COREnergy, which is the retail electricity arm of Vivant Energy, comes as NUSTAR continues to expand its footprint within Cebu's competitive tourism and hospitality market. The resort's increasing electricity requirements span its diverse facilities, including hospitality services, gaming areas, and retail outlets. Trevor Hammond, the senior vice president for gaming and integrated resort operations at NUSTAR, emphasized that this new partnership is fundamentally about securing a reliable energy supply to support the property's seamless daily operations.

Leveraging Technology for Smarter Energy Management

As part of the agreement, COREnergy will not only provide electricity but also grant NUSTAR access to its innovative My Power Platform. This system enables clients to monitor their energy consumption in real time, offering valuable data insights. Francis Del Val, president of COREnergy, explained that this tool is specifically designed to help businesses like NUSTAR actively manage their usage and plan their future energy needs more effectively. Such data-driven tools are positioned as key advantages for energy-intensive sectors such as hospitality and gaming.

Timing with a Major Regulatory Shift

This agreement aligns with a significant upcoming change in the Philippine energy landscape. Starting in 2026, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) will lower the contestable threshold to 100 kilowatts. This regulatory shift will allow a much larger number of commercial establishments to participate in the Retail Electricity Supply (RES) market by choosing their own power suppliers. COREnergy states that its flexible supply arrangements and advanced monitoring tools will provide businesses with greater control over power costs and enhance their operational resilience, preparing them for a more open and competitive market.

The deal also marks a step in parent company Vivant Corp.'s expansion of its portfolio of sustainable business solutions. For NUSTAR Cebu, the partnership with COREnergy represents a proactive step in securing a reliable, tech-enabled power foundation for its future growth and continued contribution to Cebu's economy.
