The Cebu Provincial Government has allocated P150 million from its development fund for the rehabilitation of the Marcelo B. Fernan Hall of Justice, which has long been neglected due to successive calamities.
Funding and Purpose
Attorney Felix Mari “Ace” Durano announced that this funding will also help provide additional space for the Court of Appeals. The funds will be sourced from the development fund under the 2026 budget, allocated for the repair of the building that has been unused for 13 years since the 2013 earthquake.
Cost and Initial Phase
According to the Capitol's estimates, the allocated amount covers only the initial phase, and completing the entire project will cost around P400 million. The government previously discussed inspecting the building to determine necessary actions, and based on assessments, it may need to be demolished due to damage from past disasters.
Ongoing Discussions
Currently, discussions are ongoing regarding a new arrangement between the Capitol and the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the management of the building.
