Cebu South Bus Terminal Temporarily Relocates V-Hire Operations for Major Infrastructure Upgrade

In a move to facilitate critical infrastructure improvements, the V-Hire operations at the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) have been temporarily relocated to an area near Taboan Public Market. This shift, effective from 9 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, is necessary to accommodate extensive asphalt overlay and drainage enhancement works within the terminal premises.

Project Details and Timeline

CSBT administrator Ahmed Cuizon announced that the project encompasses over 3,000 square meters and carries a contract value of P12 million. The undertaking, awarded to Ten Twenty Allied Developers, is projected to be finalized within a seven to 10-day window, targeting completion between March 20 and 23. This timeline is strategically set ahead of the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the upcoming Holy Week period.

Cuizon elaborated that the initiative had received approval and was awarded as early as October of the previous year. However, progress was hindered by adverse weather conditions, leading to delays. To minimize disruptions to terminal activities, major construction efforts will be conducted overnight from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., with only skeletal work occurring during daylight hours.

Operational Adjustments and Preparations

To enable the construction, certain bus parking zones inside the terminal will be temporarily cleared. This clearance necessitates the relocation of V-hire units to a designated spot near Taboan Public Market, mirroring a similar arrangement implemented during the Sinulog Festival. Cuizon assured that normal operations at the CSBT will resume promptly upon project completion.

In preparation for the expected influx of Holy Week travelers, additional measures are being implemented. Cuizon confirmed that extra personnel will be deployed and more air-conditioning units will be installed to enhance passenger comfort and operational efficiency during this busy period.

Enhanced Security Measures Announced

In a related development, Cuizon disclosed that both the CSBT and the Cebu North Bus Terminal will enforce a "No ID, No Entry" policy commencing March 30. This regulation will apply to bus operators, drivers, conductors, concessionaires, and Cebu Provincial Government employees assigned to the terminals.

The policy is a direct response to reports of unauthorized individuals boarding buses outside the terminal and alighting inside, where they then approach passengers or engage in competitive practices with legitimate vendors operating within the facility. This measure aims to bolster security and ensure a safer, more orderly environment for all terminal users.

As the infrastructure upgrades progress, these combined efforts underscore a commitment to improving both the physical facilities and security protocols at Cebu's key transportation hubs, ensuring better service for the anticipated Holy Week rush.
