DPWH Secretary Dizon Leads Inspection of Mananga River Riprap Construction in Talisay City
On March 25, 2026, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon, alongside Cebu Province Governor Pam Baricuatro and Talisay City Mayor Samsam Gullas, conducted a thorough inspection of the ongoing riprap construction at the Mananga River in Isla Verde, Barangay San Isidro, Talisay City. This visit underscores the government's commitment to monitoring critical infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing public safety and environmental resilience.
Infrastructure Monitoring and Community Safety Initiatives
In a related development, as part of Fire Prevention Month celebrations, Cebu City Councilor Harold Go distributed 12 fire extinguishers to residents of Sityo Lupa, Barangay Kamputhaw, on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. These essential safety devices were strategically placed in accessible locations to ensure that every household can reach one within a two-minute walk during emergencies.
Councilor Go emphasized that Sityo Lupa was prioritized due to a devastating fire in 2018, which displaced nearly 100 families. "We are identifying areas and communities that experienced fires in the past, and these are our priority for fire prevention initiatives," Go stated, highlighting the proactive approach to disaster risk reduction.
Ensuring Long-Term Preparedness and Maintenance
Under this initiative, barangay officials will conduct monthly monitoring to assess the condition and ensure proper maintenance of each fire extinguisher. During the turnover ceremony, a demonstration was held to educate residents on the correct usage of fire extinguishers, equipping them with the knowledge needed to respond effectively to fire incidents.
Councilor Go expressed hope that these measures will strengthen community preparedness and help prevent similar tragedies in the future. This dual focus on infrastructure and emergency readiness reflects a comprehensive strategy to safeguard public welfare and promote sustainable development in the region.
