DPWH Unveils Major Infrastructure Projects to Combat Traffic Nationwide

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has taken significant strides in addressing traffic congestion across the Philippines with the recent opening of key infrastructure projects. On Friday, March 20, 2026, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon inaugurated the Sta. Ines-Atlu Bola bypass road in Mabalacat, Pampanga, marking the culmination of a six-year construction effort.

Sta. Ines-Atlu Bola Bypass Road: A Long-Awaited Relief

This 1.2-kilometer bypass road is designed to alleviate traffic along the heavily congested McArthur Highway. By providing quicker access to and from the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) via the Sta. Ines exit, it promises to streamline travel for thousands of motorists daily. Secretary Dizon, who personally inspected the project in January, emphasized its importance in improving regional connectivity and reducing commute times.

Tuganay Bridge Northbound Lane Opens in Davao

In a parallel development, the DPWH opened the northbound lane of the Tuganay Bridge on Thursday, offering a faster and shorter route from Davao City to Tagum City. This move is expected to benefit over 30,000 motorists and commuters who traverse the bridge each day, providing much-needed relief ahead of the upcoming Holy Week. The project, which had been unfinished for nearly five years, had previously contributed to severe traffic bottlenecks in the area.

Aganan Flyover Resumes Construction in Iloilo

Meanwhile, construction has resumed on the long-delayed Aganan Flyover at the intersection of Benigno S. Aquino Jr. Avenue and Felix Gorriceta Avenue in Pavia, Iloilo. Following a presidential directive, Secretary Dizon has been tasked with expediting the completion of the remaining portions. The northbound lane is slated to open before the end of the year, with the entire flyover projected for completion by March 2027.

These initiatives underscore the DPWH's commitment to enhancing the nation's infrastructure network. By tackling projects that have languished for years, the department aims to foster economic growth, improve public safety, and enhance the overall quality of life for Filipinos through reduced travel times and congestion.
