DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon Directs Accelerated Completion of MacArthur Highway Rehabilitation in Apalit, Pampanga
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon has issued a firm directive for the immediate and expedited completion of the ongoing rehabilitation works on a critical section of MacArthur Highway located in Apalit, Pampanga. This move comes as a response to persistent public outcry over the prolonged delays and deteriorating conditions of the roadway.
On-Site Inspection and High-Level Coordination
Secretary Dizon personally led an inspection of the project site in Barangay Sampaloc on Friday, January 26, 2026. He was accompanied by a delegation of key local officials, including Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda and Apalit Mayor Jun Tetangco, underscoring the collaborative effort between national and local government units to address infrastructure concerns.
According to the transparency board displayed at the location, the road rehabilitation project carries a total cost of ₱35,610,746.35 and was originally scheduled for completion on July 8, 2026. However, during the inspection, Dizon emphasized the urgency of finishing the work ahead of this timeline.
Urgent Deadline Set Before Rainy Season
In a clear and direct instruction, Secretary Dizon told DPWH Pampanga 1st District Engineering Office Chief Alfie Lejarde to ensure the project is completed before the onset of the rainy season. He stated, “Basta kailangan matapos ito bago magtag-ulan. E puwedeng July, sabihin mo sa contractor.” This translates to: “We have to finish this before the rainy season. It cannot be in July, tell the contractor.”
This directive highlights the administration's proactive approach to mitigating potential weather-related disruptions and ensuring public safety and convenience.
Addressing Long-Standing Public Grievances
The specific section of MacArthur Highway under rehabilitation has been a source of significant frustration for residents, local officials, and motorists alike, due to its unfinished state over an extended period. The deteriorating road conditions have not only caused daily inconveniences but have also led to an increased risk of accidents, prompting widespread criticism.
Secretary Dizon's intervention aims to swiftly resolve these issues, demonstrating a commitment to improving infrastructure and responding to community needs. The accelerated timeline is expected to alleviate the hardships faced by commuters and enhance overall road safety in the area.
