The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is now giving top priority to the completion of the long-delayed Sto. Cristo Flyover project in Angeles City, Pampanga. This announcement came following a recent inspection by DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, who visited the site on Saturday, January 31, 2026, to assess the progress and address the ongoing delays.
Project Delays and New Timeline
Secretary Dizon revealed that the one-kilometer flyover has been under construction since 2023, meaning it has faced nearly three years of delays. Originally, the project could have been completed in just one and a half years, but staggered budget releases have significantly slowed progress. In response, Dizon has ordered the immediate release of necessary funds to accelerate construction, with a new target completion date set for June 2027.
Traffic Relief and Presidential Directive
Once finished, the Sto. Cristo Flyover is expected to serve as a crucial alternative route, alleviating the heavy traffic congestion on McArthur Highway in Angeles City. This initiative aligns with the directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., who has emphasized the need to expedite all pending projects within the agency to improve infrastructure and public services across the Philippines.
The inspection and subsequent actions underscore the DPWH's commitment to addressing infrastructure bottlenecks and enhancing transportation efficiency in key urban areas like Pampanga.
