Dumanjug Mayor Launches Probe Into Flood Control Structure Failure
Dumanjug Mayor Guntrano "Gungun" Gica has initiated a thorough investigation into the collapse of a flood control structure in Barangay Kang-actol following the impact of Tropical Depression Verbena in Southern Cebu. The incident has raised serious concerns about infrastructure integrity in the municipality.
On-Site Inspection and Immediate Response
In a Facebook post on Tuesday evening, November 25, 2025, Mayor Gica confirmed that he personally inspected the affected area and witnessed the damage firsthand. The municipal government has committed to determining the exact cause of the structural failure that left the flood control dike in ruins after the tropical depression's passage.
"I have seen the situation in Brgy. Kang-actol and we will investigate the reason behind the collapse of this flood control project," stated Gica, emphasizing the urgency of the matter. The mayor's immediate response underscores the importance of the infrastructure for community safety during severe weather events.
Contractor Identification and Repair Timeline
During the initial assessment, authorities made a significant discovery regarding the project's contractor. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) clarified that QM Builders was not the contractor involved in the failed flood control structure, contrary to earlier assumptions.
"Initially, we determined, according to DPWH, that QM Builders was not the contractor of the collapsed flood control. DPWH has already contacted the actual contractor and they have committed to fix and complete the repairs within one week," Mayor Gica added in his statement.
The investigation continued throughout Wednesday, November 26, as officials work to establish why the structure failed and ensure accountability. The swift commitment from the identified contractor to complete repairs within a seven-day timeframe provides some reassurance to affected residents.
