Metro Manila Subway Right-of-Way Acquisition Nears Full Completion by June
Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez has confirmed that the right-of-way (ROW) acquisition for the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) is progressing steadily and is expected to reach 100 percent completion by June 2026. During a recent groundbreaking ceremony for the Shaw Boulevard Station in Pasig City, Lopez revealed that the ROW acquisition currently stands at an impressive 90.92 percent, while pre-construction activities at the Shaw Boulevard Station are nearly complete.
Construction Progress and Commuter Benefits
Lopez emphasized the ongoing construction of subway stations in Pasig, highlighting the significant benefits for daily commuters, particularly those employed in the bustling Ortigas business district. He stated, "The construction of subway stations in Pasig continues. This would be a big help to commuters, especially those working in the Ortigas business district. Their commutes will be easier and faster." This development is part of the broader effort to alleviate traffic congestion and improve urban mobility in Metro Manila.
Project Details and Contract Package 104
The MMSP Pasig segment, designated as Contract Package (CP) 104, involves civil works focused on building the Ortigas Avenue and Shaw Boulevard underground stations and connecting tunnels. This contract was awarded to the Tokyu-Tobishima-Megawide Joint Venture (TTMJV) and covers a total route length of 3.397 kilometers, linking Quezon City, Pasig City, and Taguig City. The Ortigas Avenue Station is strategically located at the intersection of Ortigas Avenue and Julia Vargas Avenue along Meralco Avenue, while the Shaw Boulevard Station is situated beside Estancia Mall at the corner of Meralco Avenue and Shaw Boulevard.
Presidential Endorsement and Timelines
During the groundbreaking ceremony, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. inspected the pre-construction and main project works, underscoring the MMSP as a "sustainable and long-term" solution to Metro Manila's persistent traffic problems. He noted that the project is not only on schedule but is advancing "even more quickly" than originally planned. The entire Metro Manila Subway Project is slated for completion by 2032, promising a transformative impact on the region's transportation infrastructure and commuter experience.
