Metro Dumaguete Water Celebrates Fifth Anniversary with Major Infrastructure Milestones
Metro Dumaguete Water (MDW) has proudly marked its fifth year of operations, commemorating a half-decade of dedicated service that has driven a substantial P350 million in water service development and infrastructure investments. The milestone was celebrated during an anniversary event and employee recognition program held on February 23 at The Vineyard in Dumaguete City, reflecting on the company's transformative impact since commencing operations on February 1, 2021.
Key Achievements and Engineering Firsts
During the celebration, Chief Operating Officer Engr. Robert R. Cabiles emphasized that this significant investment reinforces MDW's unwavering commitment to enhancing water reliability and service quality for the residents of Dumaguete City. He detailed the key achievements that have defined MDW's first five years, which include the energization of two new pumping stations and the installation and replacement of over four kilometers of transmission lines to significantly boost supply capacity.
Among the most notable accomplishments is the successful construction of the first-ever pipe bridge in Negros Oriental, a pioneering engineering feat that underscores MDW's innovative approach to infrastructure development. This project, along with others, has been instrumental in modernizing the city's water network and ensuring a more resilient system.
Technological Innovations and Quality Assurance
In addition to physical infrastructure, MDW has championed technological innovations to modernize its daily operations. The company has integrated a telemetry system and established a Geographic Information System (GIS) to improve asset mapping, supply monitoring, and overall network management. These advancements have enabled more efficient and responsive water service delivery.
Furthermore, MDW has solidified its commitment to unparalleled quality assurance with the recent accreditation of its laboratory as the sole Category C water laboratory in the entire province of Negros Oriental. This accreditation ensures rigorous testing and maintenance of water quality standards, benefiting the community.
Employee Recognition and Future Plans
The 5th-anniversary event was also a heartfelt tribute to the MDW workforce, which has grown from its beginnings in 2021 to a strong team of over 200 local Dumaguete City employees. The recognition program honored their hard work and dedication, with key figures such as Metro Pacific Water President Andrew Pangilinan and Dumaguete City Water District General Manager Roderick Diaz in attendance.
Looking ahead, MDW shows no signs of slowing down. For the rest of 2026 and beyond, the company is preparing to roll out an additional P204 million in capital expenditure projects. This next phase of investment is designed to further expand the system, boost operational efficiency, and proactively address the growing water demand of Dumaguete City for the years to come.
