New Seabus Service to Enhance Connectivity Between Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu Cities
Carlos A. Gothong Lines Inc. (Cagli) has officially launched its new passenger ferry service, the GT Express Uno, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. The vessel is set to begin operations in April, specifically after the Holy Week period, which spans from March 29 to April 5, 2026. This initiative aims to provide commuters with a reliable alternative to bridge traffic, linking the urban centers of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu cities.
Launch Event and Key Attendees
The launch ceremony was graced by prominent local officials, including Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ma. Cynthia "Cindi" Chan and Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Jovito "Jonkie" Ouano. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort between the private sector and local government to improve public transportation. Calvin Boniface Gothong, president of Cagli, emphasized that the service is designed to support city initiatives focused on connectivity and reducing travel expenses for residents.
Fare Discussions and Commuter Benefits
In response to rising fuel costs, Mayor Ouano has appealed to Cagli to consider lowering the proposed fare from P35 to P20, ensuring affordability for daily commuters. He described the project as a timely intervention that not only offers an alternative transport mode but also helps decongest traffic in both cities. Mayor Chan echoed these sentiments in a Facebook post, highlighting the service's efficiency and its role in strengthening regional links through organized pick-up points and access to the GT Ferry Wharf.
Operational Details and Future Plans
The GT Express Uno will initially operate with three morning trips from Mandaue and three return trips in the evening. To facilitate passenger access, free shuttle buses will be available from key locations such as Parkmall, Mandaue City Hall, and Pacific Mall, with two rounds scheduled during peak hours. The vessel will dock at the Muelle Osmeña Lighthouse in Lapu-Lapu City, while shuttle services will transport passengers to the wharf on Zuellig Ave. in Barangay Subangdaku.
Looking ahead, local officials and Cagli have expressed plans to expand routes, potentially including Camotes, to further enhance regional mobility and economic growth. This project marks a significant step towards a more integrated and commuter-friendly transport system in the area.
