The NLEX Corporation has officially commenced a major improvement project on the Meycauayan River Bridge, aimed at enhancing road surface quality and mitigating common defects such as potholes that frequently arise during the rainy season. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to ensure safer and smoother travel along this critical stretch of the North Luzon Expressway.
Traffic Disruptions and Motorist Advisory
In light of the construction activities, NLEX officials have issued a public appeal for patience and understanding from motorists and local residents. The project is anticipated to cause significant traffic congestion in the surrounding area, prompting the tollway firm to implement strategic measures to manage the flow of vehicles.
Luis S. Reñon, President and General Manager of NLEX Corporation, emphasized the temporary nature of the inconvenience. “Please expect travel delays while this project is ongoing. We appreciate our customers' understanding as we complete these works. This short-term inconvenience will result in smoother and safer travel along this stretch of the NLEX,” he stated.
Lane Closure and Traffic Management Plans
To facilitate the enhancement works, NLEX has instituted a one-lane closure on weekdays, with only a single lane shut down at any given time. This approach is designed to minimize disruption while allowing construction to proceed efficiently. Notably, all four lanes will remain accessible to traffic during weekend rush hours to accommodate higher volumes of travelers.
As a compensatory measure, one lane of the East Service Road, spanning from Ever Memorial Park in Lawang Bato, Valenzuela, to Libtong in Meycauayan, is being utilized as an alternate route for northbound vehicles during the closure period. Once repairs on the northbound side are finalized, the focus will shift to the southbound section.
Counterflow Scheme and Alternate Routes
During the southbound repairs, a counterflow scheme will be implemented for Manila-bound motorists, while the East Service Road continues to serve northbound traffic. This dual strategy aims to maintain connectivity and reduce bottlenecks throughout the project duration.
Motorists are encouraged to consult NLEX Corporation’s official social media pages for detailed alternate routes and real-time updates. Additionally, traffic marshals and directional signs will be deployed on-site to guide drivers and enhance safety during the construction phase.
Completion Timeline and Further Information
The Meycauayan River Bridge improvement project is scheduled for completion before Holy Week, ensuring that the enhancements are in place ahead of peak travel periods. For ongoing traffic updates, motorists can monitor NLEX’s official social media accounts or contact the 24/7 hotline at 1-35000 for immediate assistance.
This infrastructure upgrade underscores NLEX’s commitment to improving road conditions and safety for all users, despite the temporary challenges posed by the construction activities.
