Over 200,000 PEMEDES Riders and TNVS Drivers to Receive P5,000 Cash Aid from DSWD

In a significant relief effort, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has announced that more than 160,000 motorcycle taxi and private express and messengerial delivery service (PEMEDES) riders, along with over 48,000 transport network vehicle service (TNVS) drivers, are set to receive P5,000 in cash assistance. This initiative falls under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) Program, aimed at providing financial support to those in need.

Beneficiary Selection and Distribution Schedule

The beneficiaries have been identified from lists of unclaimed cash aids and additional validated names under the program. The distribution of aid is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 17, for unclaimed and pre-identified sites. This will be immediately followed by an open payout on Saturday and Sunday, April 18-19, at designated payout sites across Metro Manila.

Key payout locations include:

  • Quezon City Memorial Circle

All payouts will commence at 7:00 AM. For TNVS drivers, the DSWD has arranged a one-day payout schedule on Thursday, April 16, to streamline the process and ensure efficient delivery of assistance.

Expanded Coverage to Nearby Provinces

Beyond Metro Manila, this special payout will also extend to several adjacent provinces, including Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, and Bulacan. This expansion aims to reach a broader segment of affected individuals, ensuring that more people benefit from the government's support during challenging times.

The DSWD's move highlights its commitment to addressing the financial crises faced by gig economy workers, particularly in the transportation and delivery sectors. By leveraging the AICS Program, the agency seeks to provide timely aid to those who have been validated as in need, helping to alleviate economic hardships and promote stability.
