The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has reported a significant employment setback in Central Luzon, with nearly 900 workers losing their jobs at two companies operating within the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga.
Details of the Mass Layoffs
According to an official statement from DOLE, a total of 867 employees from two firms have been displaced. The job cuts stem from two separate circumstances affecting companies in different industries.
In the case of Charter Link Clark, Inc., a garment manufacturer, the department confirmed that 477 employees were affected by the company's permanent closure. DOLE cited "lack of demand/orders" as the primary reason for the shutdown, highlighting challenges in the local garment sector.
Separately, La Rose Noire Philippines, Inc., a business engaged in the pastries industry, terminated 390 probationary employees. The DOLE statement indicated these workers were let go for "failing to meet the company’s strict requirements" during their probationary period.
DOLE's Immediate Response and Job Fair
In response to the sudden displacement of hundreds of workers, DOLE has organized a rapid intervention. The agency will hold a special one-day job fair on Friday, January 9, 2026.
The event is scheduled to take place at the Clark Event and Conference Hall within the Clark Freeport Zone. This initiative aims to directly connect the affected workers with new employment opportunities.
"We will conduct a special job fair for the displaced workers," DOLE stated, reaffirming its commitment. "The Department remains committed to support a range of workers, including those who have been displaced."
Available Opportunities and Support Services
The upcoming job fair promises substantial opportunities for the displaced workforce. DOLE disclosed that over 2,900 job openings will be available, offered by 20 participating employers specifically looking to hire the former employees of the two affected companies.
The top vacancies that will be offered include:
- Customer Service Representative - 900 positions
- Production Helper - 500 positions
- Project Helpers, Assembly Technicians, and Production Operators - 100 positions each
Beyond job matching, the event will also provide critical support services. DOLE will set up on-site booth services to assist eligible displaced workers in filing for unemployment insurance benefits. Department representatives will also be on hand to provide information on other relevant government assistance programs that the workers may avail of during their transition.
This coordinated effort by DOLE underscores the government's proactive stance in mitigating the impact of sudden job losses, especially in key economic zones like Clark, by facilitating immediate re-employment and access to social safety nets.
