Cebu Provincial Government Launches Major Job Fair with 20,000 Vacancies
The Provincial Employment Services Office (Peso) and the Cebu People’s Action Center (CPAC) have jointly organized a significant two-day job fair, offering nearly 20,000 vacant positions for both local and overseas employment. This event marks a crucial effort to boost job opportunities in the region and support economic growth.
Event Details and Schedule
In an interview on Friday, February 20, 2026, Peso Alternative Employment Officer Josephine Tonilon revealed that this job fair is the first of four such events scheduled for the year. The recruitment activities will take place at the Cebu Provincial Capitol building in Cebu City, providing a centralized venue for job seekers.
Overseas Recruitment: On Saturday, February 21, the focus will be on overseas employment, with approximately 10,000 positions available. Most of these jobs are in the tourism sector and skilled worker roles, primarily for destinations like Dubai and Kuwait.
Local Recruitment: Following this, on Sunday, February 22, the job fair will shift to local employment, offering another 10,000 vacancies. This dual-day structure aims to cater to a wide range of applicants, from those seeking opportunities abroad to those preferring to work within the Philippines.
Governor Baricuatro's Employment Initiatives
Tonilon highlighted that since Governor Pamela Baricuatro assumed office in June 2025, this job fair represents the second such event under her administration. It underscores her commitment to addressing unemployment and fostering job creation in Cebu.
The previous job fair, held in October 2025, saw significant success, with over 600 applicants immediately hired for local positions and more than 200 securing overseas jobs. This track record suggests that the upcoming event could yield similar positive outcomes, providing a substantial boost to the local economy and workforce.
Impact and Future Prospects
This job fair is expected to attract thousands of job seekers, offering them direct access to employers and recruitment agencies. By splitting the event into overseas and local recruitment days, organizers aim to streamline the process and maximize opportunities for all participants.
With the tourism industry and skilled labor sectors prominently featured, the fair aligns with global employment trends and local economic needs. As part of a series of planned job fairs, this initiative reflects ongoing efforts to reduce unemployment rates and support sustainable development in Cebu.
