DOLE Issues Reminder on Bonifacio Day 2025 Compensation Rules

The Department of Labor and Employment has issued an important reminder to all private sector employers regarding the proper compensation rules that will take effect during the upcoming Bonifacio Day celebration on November 30, 2025.

Based on Labor Advisory No. 13 - 2025, employers must follow specific wage regulations since November 30 has been officially declared as a regular holiday throughout the country. This advisory serves as a timely reminder for businesses to ensure they comply with the legally mandated pay structures.

Holiday Pay Rates for Employees Who Work

For employees who report to work during the Bonifacio Day regular holiday, employers are required to pay 200 percent of the employee's daily wage for the first eight hours of work. This means workers will receive double their ordinary day rate for their holiday service.

When employees work beyond the standard eight hours, the rules specify that employers must pay an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate on top of the holiday pay for all overtime work performed. This ensures proper compensation for extended working hours during the holiday.

Special Rates for Holiday Falling on Rest Day

The labor department has also clarified the compensation rules for situations where the regular holiday coincides with an employee's scheduled rest day. In such cases, employers must pay the worker an additional 30 percent of the basic wage of 200 percent, providing even higher compensation for this special circumstance.

Similar to regular holiday overtime, employees working beyond eight hours on their rest day that falls on the holiday will receive an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate for overtime work, ensuring fair payment for the inconvenience of working during both their rest day and a national holiday.

Compensation for Employees Not Working

For employees who do not work on Bonifacio Day, the rules state that employers shall pay 100 percent of the employee's wage for that day. However, this applies only if the employee worked or was on a paid leave of absence on the day immediately preceding the regular holiday.

The basis for these holiday declarations comes from Proclamation No. 727 - 2024, which officially listed Bonifacio Day among the regular holidays for the year 2025. This legal foundation ensures that all workers across the Philippines receive the proper benefits and recognition for this important national observance.

The DOLE reminder serves as a crucial notification for both employers and employees to understand their rights and responsibilities during the upcoming holiday period, promoting fair labor practices throughout the private sector.
