The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has confirmed that employees who report for duty on Thursday, April 9, 2026, will receive extra compensation. This announcement, based on Labor Advisory 05-2026, applies to the regular holiday marking Araw ng Kagitingan, ensuring workers are fairly compensated for their service on this significant day.
Payment Rates for Holiday Work
For those working during the regular holiday, employers are required to pay a total of 200 percent of the employee's daily wage for the first eight hours. If overtime is performed, an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate on that day must be provided. This structure aims to reward employees for their dedication during national observances.
Special Provisions for Rest Days
In cases where the regular holiday coincides with an employee's scheduled rest day, the compensation increases further. The employer must pay an additional 30 percent on top of the basic 200 percent wage, along with the standard 30 percent extra for any overtime hours worked. This ensures that workers are adequately compensated even when holidays disrupt their usual rest periods.
Pay for Non-Working Employees
For employees who do not work on April 9, 2026, DOLE stipulates that employers must still pay 100 percent of the employee's wage for that day. This provision, under Proclamation 1006-2025, guarantees that all workers benefit from the holiday, whether they are on duty or not, reinforcing labor rights and financial security.
