The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has launched a crucial initiative to profile workers severely affected by Typhoon Aghon across various regions of Cebu. This comprehensive data gathering aims to identify individuals and families requiring immediate employment assistance and livelihood support.
Targeted Assistance for Vulnerable Workers
DOLE-7 Regional Director Lilia Estillore announced that the profiling operation will focus on identifying workers whose livelihoods were disrupted by the recent typhoon. The data collected will serve as the foundation for designing appropriate interventions and determining the specific types of assistance needed by different worker categories.
Multi-Location Assessment Underway
Assessment teams have been deployed to several affected areas including:
- Carcar City
- Compostela
- Dalaguete
- Samboan
- Santander
These locations were among the hardest hit by Typhoon Aghon, with significant damage reported to agricultural and fishing communities - sectors that employ substantial numbers of daily wage earners.
Emergency Employment Programs Activated
DOLE has prepared to implement its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program as an immediate response measure. This emergency employment initiative provides temporary jobs for displaced workers while they rebuild their primary livelihoods.
Coordinated Disaster Response
The profiling effort is part of a broader inter-agency response coordinated through the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. DOLE is working closely with local government units to ensure no affected worker is overlooked in the assessment process.
Workers who have lost their livelihoods due to Typhoon Aghon are encouraged to register with their local Public Employment Service Office (PESO) to be included in the profiling and qualify for upcoming assistance programs.
