DA Ensures Steady Supply of P20 Rice After Shortage

The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Monday, April 27, 2026, assured that there is sufficient supply of rice priced at P20 per kilo under the Benteng Bigas Meron Na (BBM Na) program at Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) sites.

The statement came after a temporary stockout of P20 rice in selected Kadiwa sites due to increased demand. DA Spokesperson Assistant Secretary Arnel de Mesa said that the Food Terminal Inc. (FTI) and the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service (Amas) are adjusting the system to ensure replenishment of rice supply.

“We have no problem with inventory or volume to be used for this P20 rice. There will be no more shortages,” he said. “There may be some issues or delays, but that’s natural, [there are] minor issues,” de Mesa added.

The National Food Authority (NFA) has initially released at least 10,000 sacks of old but good quality rice for the BBM Na program. As of the end of March, the NFA had over 400,000 metric tons of rice stock, sufficient for 15 days of the country’s daily consumption, according to de Mesa.

Meanwhile, over 6,000 families in Batangas City received 10 kilograms of rice each on April 24, 2026, as part of the Bawat Bayan Makikinabang program.
