Davao Global Township Unveils New Retail Pads and Pavilion in Major Expansion

Property developer YHEST Realty and Development Corporation, in collaboration with Cebu Landmasters Inc. (CLI), has launched the Retail Pads and Pavilion at Davao Global Township (DGT) in Matina, Davao City, on March 10, 2026. This opening signifies a significant step in transforming DGT into a premier commercial and lifestyle destination in southern Davao City.

Transition to Permanent Commercial Structures

Jose Soberano III, chairman and CEO of CLI and chairman of YHEST, highlighted that the new facilities represent a strategic shift from temporary marketplaces to enduring commercial infrastructure. "When we started with the marketplace, people began to appreciate what Davao could offer here — the open spaces, the evening lights, the parking, and the relaxed environment," Soberano explained during the opening event. "We knew that was temporary. Now we are transitioning to something more permanent that integrates different dining concepts and experiences in one place."

The three-level retail complex along Gen. MacArthur Highway is designed to attract a diverse mix of dining and lifestyle establishments. The Pavilion accommodates 16 smaller restaurant concepts, while the Retail Pads host larger dining venues such as Ahfat Seafood Plaza, Nonki, and Kenny Rogers Roasters. Current tenants include a blend of local and international brands like Sora Café, Ramenikko, Mille Matcha, Hola, Flynn’s Halo-Halo, Annipie, Cravings To Go, Sips and Bowls, Naan Stop, Ice Giants, and Smashd.

Public-Private Coordination and Future Plans

Soberano emphasized the successful public-private partnership with the Davao City government, particularly in traffic management and public space maintenance. "We will continue to own and maintain the streets and open spaces so we can ensure proper upkeep, sanitation, and cleanliness," he stated. "The city government has kindly accepted to support us, especially on traffic management."

Looking ahead, developers have outlined ambitious projects to further expand DGT's commercial and residential components. Future phases include:

  • An outdoor commercial complex inspired by U.S. developments, featuring retail stores, offices, financial services, and fitness facilities.
  • A larger indoor mall on a two-hectare property, potentially incorporating a high-end hotel and condominium units.

Soberano noted, "It’s not purely about restaurants. It’s about creating a more active and integrated environment." He added that the company is studying ways to enhance the development, aiming to build something Davao will truly treasure.

Long-Term Vision and Economic Impact

YHEST president Frederick H. Yuson underscored the township's role in serving Davao City's southern population. "Our family has been here since 1862, and we felt that the South deserves its own center," Yuson said. He pointed out that a large portion of the city's residents live in southern districts, positioning DGT to support local economic activity and alleviate congestion in other commercial areas.

In a message delivered by Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte II on behalf of Mayor Sebastian Duterte, the city government praised the expansion for its contributions to job creation and economic growth. "Over the years, Davao Global Township has developed into a bustling commercial center in the south of Davao City, providing shopping, dining, and entertainment spaces that foster job creation, support economic growth, and encourage community engagement," the mayor's statement read.

With the Retail Pads and Pavilion now operational, DGT continues to roll out additional phases as part of its comprehensive master plan, reinforcing its status as a dynamic hub in Davao City.
