Bureau of Customs Achieves Historic First-Quarter Revenue Collection in 2026

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has surpassed its revenue target for the first quarter of 2026, marking a record-breaking achievement in the agency's history. From January to March, the BOC collected a total of ₱239.054 billion, exceeding the original goal of ₱236.060 billion by ₱2.994 billion, or 1.3 percent. This figure also represents a significant increase of ₱7.677 billion, or 3.3 percent, compared to the same period last year.

Key Drivers Behind the Revenue Surge

According to BOC Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, the excess revenue is a direct result of implemented reforms, stringent management practices, and enhanced law enforcement across all ports in the country. A substantial portion of the funds came from successful public auctions of confiscated cargo and contraband, particularly smuggled luxury vehicles. Additionally, the agency's strengthened post-clearance audit operations played a crucial role in addressing tax deficiencies among importers, contributing significantly to the overall collection.

Integrity and Modernization Initiatives

As part of ongoing efforts to cleanse the agency, the BOC continues to enforce its Integrity, Accountability, and Modernization Program. This initiative aims to promote transparency and elevate professionalism among staff to prevent corruption. Nepomuceno emphasized that exceeding the target serves as clear proof that combining honest systems, integrity, and modernization effectively strengthens the government's ability to generate funds.
