Bureau of Immigration Issues Advisory for Holy Week Travelers
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has issued a crucial reminder to all travelers during the Holy Week period, urging them to arrive at airports at least three hours before their scheduled flights. This proactive measure aims to prevent delays and ensure a smooth travel experience as passenger volumes are expected to surge significantly.
Essential Travel Documents and Preparations
Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado emphasized the importance of having all required travel documents ready well in advance. Among the key requirements is the eTravel clearance, which must be completed at least 72 hours before departure. Travelers can fill out this clearance via the official website eTravel.gov.ph or through the eGovPH super app, streamlining the process for both outbound and inbound passengers.
Commissioner Viado stated, "Our officers are fully deployed to ensure smooth and efficient processing, but we strongly advise the public to arrive early and come prepared with complete documents." He highlighted that early preparation helps decongest airport queues and facilitates a more seamless travel experience for everyone.
Surge in Passenger Volume and Airport Expectations
The BI anticipates a substantial increase in passenger traffic during the peak travel period across major international airports. In line with this, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) operator, New NAIA Infra Corp., projects approximately 1.35 million passengers from March 28 to April 5, which includes Easter Sunday. This forecast underscores the necessity for travelers to adhere to the BI's guidelines to avoid congestion and delays.
Specific Requirements for Different Traveler Groups
The advisory also outlines specific requirements for various categories of travelers:
- Foreign Nationals: Those who have stayed in the Philippines for more than six months must secure their Emigration Clearance Certificates before departure.
- Registered Foreigners: Holders of ACR I-Cards (Alien Certificate of Registration Identity Cards) are advised to obtain reentry permits in advance from BI offices or the BI one-stop shop at NAIA.
- Filipino Government Workers: Even when traveling abroad for personal purposes, they are required to present a travel authority from their respective agencies.
- Minors: Children traveling alone or not accompanied by their parents must have a travel clearance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Enhancing Efficiency with E-Gates System
To further improve processing times and overall efficiency, Commissioner Viado assured that the e-gates system is fully operational at immigration counters. This technology significantly reduces waiting periods and enhances the travel experience by automating certain checks, allowing officers to focus on more complex cases.
By following these guidelines, travelers can contribute to a more organized and efficient airport environment during the busy Holy Week season, ensuring that their journeys are as hassle-free as possible.
