Cebu City Police Launches Bike Patrol Program to Boost Tourist Security
Cebu Police Launch Bike Patrol for Tourist Safety

The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has officially launched its innovative Bike Patrol Program, marking a significant step towards enhancing public safety and security in the city's busiest areas. Spearheaded by Police Colonel George Ylanan, the Chief of Police, the program was inaugurated on Monday, November 24, 2025, at the Tourist Police Office located in front of Cebu City Hall.

Boosting Police Visibility and Rapid Response

The primary goal of the Bike Patrol Program is to significantly improve police visibility and enable a faster response to incidents within tourist zones. This strategic move focuses on key locations such as city landmarks, the central business district, public plazas, and popular entertainment spots frequented by both local and international visitors. The initiative directly addresses the growing number of tourists visiting Cebu City, reinforcing the commitment to citizen security and adding a dynamic, mobile layer to the police force on the streets.

The launch ceremony was witnessed by key police officials, including Police Lieutenant Colonel Miguel Andeza, the Deputy City Director for Operation, and Police Major Mark Don Leanza, the Chief of the Tourist Police Unit, underscoring the program's importance to the force's operational strategy.

Operational Readiness and Equipment

During the launch, Colonel Ylanan emphasized the core values expected from the personnel assigned to the bike patrols. He instructed them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, courtesy, and situational awareness to ensure they are always prepared to address any issues within their jurisdiction effectively.

The program is currently equipped with 20 bicycles assigned to the Tourist Police Unit. Each bike is outfitted with essential gear to ensure officer readiness and effectiveness. The equipment includes protective gear, reliable communication devices, and comprehensive first-aid kits.

A Physically Demanding Role for Enhanced Security

Given that the bicycles are pedal-powered, the CCPO has mandated that all personnel selected for this program must be in excellent physical condition. This requirement ensures that officers can effectively patrol their assigned areas and respond swiftly to any emergencies. This new mobile unit is poised to become a more approachable and agile presence within the community, fostering a greater sense of safety for everyone in Cebu City.
