Damosa Land Breaks Ground on TRYP by Wyndham Samal

Damosa Land Launches TRYP by Wyndham Samal Condominium-Hotel Project

Damosa Land Inc. has officially broken ground on the TRYP by Wyndham Samal, a significant development that marks a major advancement in tourism, real estate, and long-term investment for Samal Island in the Southern Philippines. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on January 29, 2026, signaling a new era of growth for this popular destination.

Strategic Location and Development Details

Positioned along the scenic Davao Gulf and just a few kilometers from Davao City, this four-star condominium-hotel introduces the internationally recognized TRYP by Wyndham lifestyle brand to Samal Island. The island has been gaining traction as a favored spot for both travelers and investors seeking opportunities in a burgeoning market.

Developed by Damosa Land Inc. (DLI), the project features a unique "condotel" concept that seamlessly blends hospitality operations with real estate ownership. This innovative approach is designed to strengthen Samal's competitive edge in the Asia-Pacific tourism sector while simultaneously fostering local economic development.

Vision and Economic Impact

Ricardo Lagdameo, president of Damosa Land, emphasized the project's focus on sustainable and high-impact developments. "TRYP by Wyndham Samal reflects our commitment to creating long-term value for communities and investors," Lagdameo stated. "This initiative will not only boost Samal's tourism appeal but also generate substantial job opportunities and economic benefits for the island."

The six-story condominium-hotel will offer an array of amenities, including:

  • 100 guest rooms for visitors
  • Multiple dining outlets and meeting spaces
  • A 250-seat ballroom for events
  • Fitness and leisure facilities
  • An infinity-edge swimming pool with panoramic views of the Davao Gulf

Construction is currently underway, with completion targeted for the fourth quarter of 2028. Operations are expected to commence in early 2029, positioning the property as a key player in the region's hospitality landscape.

Infrastructure Synergy with SIDC Bridge

This development aligns with major infrastructure upgrades in the area, most notably the Samal Island–Davao City Connector (SIDC) Bridge. According to the Department of Public Works and Highways, the 4.76-kilometer, four-lane extradosed bridge is approximately 46.5 percent complete and is scheduled for completion in 2028.

Once operational, the bridge is projected to drastically reduce travel time between Samal Island and Davao City from up to 30–55 minutes by ferry to just about four to five minutes by land. This improvement will significantly enhance accessibility for residents, tourists, and investors alike.

Balancing Growth with Environmental Protection

Igacos Mayor Lemuel "Toto" Reyes highlighted the transformative potential of the bridge for Samal's economy, while stressing the importance of sustainable development. "The Samal Island–Davao City Connector Bridge will bring economic growth and new opportunities for our people," Mayor Reyes said. "However, progress must go hand in hand with protecting the environment, which remains Samal's greatest asset."

Innovative Real Estate Finance Model

Beyond its tourism implications, TRYP by Wyndham Samal represents a pioneering move in Philippine real estate finance. Damosa Land has become the first developer in the country to secure approval under the Securities and Exchange Commission's SEC-RENT framework for a rental pool program. This regulated structure allows investors to participate in hospitality-backed income streams.

The program includes 100 certificates of participation linked to individual condotel units, with prices ranging from P10 million to P20 million. Total sales are anticipated to reach approximately P1.2 billion, showcasing strong investor confidence in the project.

Future Outlook for Samal Island

With the SIDC Bridge nearing completion and new branded hospitality developments like TRYP by Wyndham Samal on the rise, Samal Island is rapidly emerging as a key growth area in Mindanao's tourism and investment landscape. Industry observers note that the convergence of infrastructure improvements, enhanced tourism capacity, and regulated investment models positions the island for sustained and balanced growth in the coming years.

This project not only underscores Damosa Land's commitment to innovative development but also sets a benchmark for future investments in the region, promising a brighter economic future for Samal Island and its residents.
