Davao City Terminal Launches New Long-Haul Bus Route to Luzon
The Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) is poised to inaugurate a significant new long-haul bus route that will directly link Davao City to Luzon, marking a substantial enhancement in passenger transportation and regional connectivity across the Philippines. This initiative involves deploying an initial fleet of nine bus units to service this extensive corridor, providing travelers with improved and diversified options for inter-island travel.
Official Announcement and Regulatory Approval
During a press corps briefing held at Mandaya Hotel on March 25, 2026, DCOTT Manager Aisa Usop confirmed the development, revealing that the incoming operator, Ceres Transport Incorporated, has successfully obtained its Certificate of Public Convenience from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). This regulatory clearance paves the way for the commencement of operations, ensuring compliance with national transportation standards.
Route Details and Operational Schedule
The new service is scheduled to operate twice weekly, covering a comprehensive route from Davao City to Cubao in Quezon City. The journey will traverse several key provinces and regions, including Batangas, Panay Island provinces, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Zamboanga del Norte, Misamis Oriental, and Bukidnon. This extensive coverage is designed to facilitate smoother travel and better access between Mindanao and Luzon.
Filling the Gap and Enhancing Passenger Choice
Manager Usop emphasized that this new route will help address the gap left by Philtranco, which previously serviced the Davao-to-Luzon corridor but has since scaled back operations. However, she noted that Philtranco may potentially resume services in the future, as the company is reportedly working on restoring its fleet. Additionally, Usop highlighted that the new route offers a distinct alternative to existing services, such as those provided by Metro Shuttle, which pass through Tagum and the Caraga area toward Surigao.
"The advantage for our passengers is that they can now choose their preferred route, whether through Surigao or through Bukidnon," Usop explained, underscoring the benefit of increased travel options for commuters.
Operator Background and Implementation Timeline
Ceres Transport Incorporated is a member of the Yanson Group of bus companies, which also includes Mindanao Star Bus Company, Rural Transit, and Bachelor Express. This affiliation brings established expertise and resources to the new service. Tentatively, operations are set to begin in the first week of April, pending final approvals and the allocation of terminal bays at DCOTT.
Currently, DCOTT is finalizing logistical arrangements to accommodate the new buses, despite challenges related to limited available slots within the terminal. This effort reflects the terminal's commitment to expanding services and improving infrastructure to meet growing passenger demands.
