A family returning to their ancestral homeland in Masbate has discovered the province's remarkable transformation and hidden natural wonders during their week-long visit that began on November 18, 2025.
Rediscovering Roots and Infrastructure Improvements
The family arrived at Mobo City port where they were welcomed by Nido Vallena, a government official and the brother of the traveler's father. Immediately noticeable were the significant improvements in road infrastructure throughout the province.
The roads in Masbate now surpass many national highways in Cebu in terms of quality and smoothness, according to the visitors. Unlike some Cebu roads that feel bumpy like riding a horse, Masbate's well-maintained highways allow vehicles to travel without constant jolting and interruption.
Unexpected Natural Wonders
The following day, their uncle Nido took them to Balud City, where they encountered landscapes that rivaled the famous scenery of Bukidnon. The similarity was so striking that even their daughter Marylove, who had previously visited Bukidnon, commented that the views were comparable.
In Milagros, the family marveled at the expansive farmlands and ranches filled with cattle and horses grazing on lush grasslands. The coastal views, agricultural landscapes, and mountain vistas created a picturesque setting that tempted visitors to simply stop and admire nature's handiwork.
Active Community and Peaceful Atmosphere
During their explorations with relatives Karen, Yolanda, and Luisa, the family encountered an active mountain biking community. The natural beauty of Balud provides perfect terrain for biking enthusiasts to enjoy the coastal, agricultural, and mountain routes.
The peaceful environment stood in stark contrast to their home in Cebu City. With fewer vehicles on the roads and minimal crowds at the beach resort where they stayed for several days, the family found themselves forgetting their daily worries as the tranquility of the surroundings brought mental peace.
