NUSTAR Cebu's 'Carnaval de Luz' Welcomes 2026

NUSTAR Resort and Casino in Cebu launched 2026 with a spectacular and hopeful celebration, drawing a large crowd to its scenic Boardwalk for an unforgettable New Year's Eve.

A Night of Light and Celebration

On December 31, 2025, the NUSTAR Boardwalk transformed into a vibrant coastal carnival named 'Carnaval de Luz.' The event successfully attracted approximately 2,000 attendees, including families, friends, and resort guests, all eager to welcome the new year with music and festivity.

The evening's entertainment began with lively performances by Elmer Dado & Gruppo Tribale. Their music set the stage for a night filled with dynamic acts, including energetic samba dancers, captivating poi and hoop performers, and engaging roving entertainers who mingled with the crowd. Throughout the night, exciting raffle draws added an extra layer of anticipation for the guests.

Pyrobird and Future Developments

As the clock struck midnight, the sky above Cebu erupted in a stunning pyro-musical fireworks display. The grand finale featured a magnificent pyrobird that symbolized the dawn of 2026. The celebration continued into the early hours with an after-midnight set by DJ Kit, keeping the energy high.

In an interview, NUSTAR Vice President for Business Development Katrina Mae de Jesus explained the deeper meaning behind the carnival theme. She acknowledged that 2025 was a challenging year for Cebu and stated that 'Carnaval de Luz' was designed to bring hope, light, and a spirit of recovery to the community.

De Jesus also shared exciting news for the resort's future. Now in its fourth year since opening on May 8, 2022, NUSTAR is set to enhance its offerings. In 2026, the resort plans to open the first-ever 180-degree skydeck viewing park at the NUSTAR Hotel, promising a new attraction for visitors.

Commitment to Cebu's Community and Calendar

NUSTAR's role extends beyond single events. The resort is committed to hosting signature gatherings throughout the year to establish itself as a premier lifestyle destination. These include its popular Taste Cebu event, Easter celebrations, a Wellness Month in September, and of course, its annual Christmas and New Year festivities.

'We want to make sure that we're bringing in the good vibes for 2026,' de Jesus emphasized. She expressed pride in being part of Cebu's progressive community and highlighted the resort's dedication to supporting local hospitality and leisure, ensuring they continue to thrive. The 'Carnaval de Luz' served as a powerful example of this mission, championing the resilient Cebuano spirit through entertainment and shared cultural experiences.
