Seda Central Bloc Celebrates Sixth Anniversary with Focus on Sustainable Growth

The Seda Central Bloc hotel in Cebu recently marked its sixth anniversary with a celebration themed "Growing Together," emphasizing its journey of resilience and commitment to sustainable practices. Media guests gathered poolside, dressed in various shades of green, to honor the hotel's milestones and future aspirations.

Leadership and Expansion in Cebu

Ron Manalang, now serving as cluster general manager for both Seda properties in Cebu, welcomed attendees and reflected on the hotel's evolution. He highlighted the challenges faced, including opening just before the pandemic and enduring natural disasters like typhoons and earthquakes. Manalang expressed gratitude to media partners and praised the resilience of the team, stating, "The journey was not easy, but we persevered because of our dedicated men and women."

Joining him were key figures such as Antoinette Ansing, cluster communications manager, Thrina de la Calzada, director of business development, and Jeryl Tio, the new general manager of Seda Ayala Center Cebu. This event underscored the hotel's growth in scale and recognition over the past six years.

Achieving Edge Advanced Certification

A major highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of the Edge Advanced Certification, making Seda Central Bloc the first hotel in Cebu to attain this prestigious recognition. Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (Edge) is an internationally recognized green building certification system developed by the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group.

In December 2025, the hotel achieved outstanding benchmarks under the Edge framework, including:

  • 43 percent energy savings
  • 24 percent water savings
  • 60 percent reduction in embodied carbon in materials

This certification marks a significant step in sustainable hospitality, showcasing the hotel's dedication to environmental stewardship.

Urban Greenhouse and Farm-to-Table Initiatives

The anniversary event also featured the hotel's Urban Greenhouse, an innovative initiative located at the heart of the property. This greenhouse supports farm-to-table efforts by supplying fresh herbs and produce, such as those used in the evening's salad station and the "Prutasan ni Adan" fruit station.

Additionally, a refreshing tea station in partnership with Equilibrium showcased brands like Dilmah, Torani, and Andros, further emphasizing the hotel's focus on quality and sustainability.
