In a significant crackdown on illicit trade, Zamboanga City law enforcement authorities have successfully apprehended an individual and confiscated smuggled cigarettes with an estimated value of P4.5 million. The operation, conducted on Sunday, March 8, 2026, marks a notable victory in the ongoing battle against smuggling activities in the region.

Coordinated Operation Leads to Arrest

The police, in close coordination with the Bureau of Customs (BOC), executed a targeted anti-smuggling operation in Purok 6, Sinunuc village, Zamboanga City. At approximately 7:35 a.m., operatives intercepted a vehicle suspected of transporting contraband cigarettes, leading to the immediate arrest of the driver.

Suspect Identified as Alias Aladin

The arrested individual has been identified as alias Aladin, a 24-year-old resident of Baliwasan village, Zamboanga City. Authorities revealed that prior intelligence indicated several master cases of cigarettes were being loaded into a vehicle, prompting the swift response from law enforcement teams.

Massive Seizure of Contraband

During the operation, a total of 66 master cases containing assorted smuggled cigarettes were seized. The confiscated goods have an estimated worth of P4,540,246, highlighting the substantial financial impact of such illegal activities on the economy.

Legal Proceedings Underway

Following the arrest, alias Aladin has been placed under the custody of Zamboanga City Police Station 8. Authorities are now preparing to file appropriate charges against the suspect for violations of customs and tax laws, ensuring that legal measures are pursued to deter future smuggling attempts.
