Philippine food exporters have successfully generated significant sales at a major trade exhibition in Japan, signaling robust international demand for the country's high-value coconut-based goods.

Strong Sales at Japanese Trade Fair

During the Fabex Kansai 2025 trade fair in Japan, which focused on commercial food ingredients, equipment, and containers, exporters from the Philippines registered sales worth US$1.72 million, equivalent to approximately P101.34 million. The event took place from November 26 to 28, 2025.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) highlighted the achievement in a press release on Monday, December 15, 2025. According to the DTI, the results demonstrate a clear increase in demand for Philippine coconut products and help solidify the nation's standing within this lucrative industry.

Showcasing Philippine Innovation

A delegation of 25 Philippine exporters participated in the event, presenting a diverse range of products tailored to the Japanese market. Their offerings included plant-based beverages, natural sweeteners, specialty oils, and various other coconut-derived ingredients. These products align perfectly with Japan's growing consumer preference for plant-based and wellness-oriented options.

The exporters' participation was organized by the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Osaka and the DTI-Export Marketing Bureau. They received support from DTI Laguna and Region 4-A through the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan.

Strategic Preparation and Market Insights

Members of the Philippine delegation undertook thorough preparation before the event. They conducted detailed market scoping and retail scans to analyze key factors such as pricing strategies, packaging trends, consumer behavior, and competitor positioning in Japan.

To gain deeper insights, the group visited Cocowell’s Sari-Sari Store, a specialty shop in Osaka run by Japanese proprietors. This visit provided them with a clearer understanding of how Philippine coconut products are marketed and sold within Japan's health-conscious retail landscape.

Commercial Counsellor Michael Alfred Ignacio emphasized the broader significance of the event's success. He stated that Fabex Kansai 2025 not only showcased the competitiveness of Philippine exporters but also reflected Japan's confidence in the Philippine coconut supply chain and its capacity for innovation.

These positive results are expected to strengthen the Philippines' long-term market position in Japan and create new avenues for sustainable commercial growth in the export sector.
