Cebu Technological University–Argao Campus has bestowed a prestigious honor upon the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7, awarding them the "Catalyst for Community Empowerment Award" during the university's 81st Founding Anniversary Celebration on February 17, 2026. This recognition, part of the "SEMPER GRATUS: Garbo ug Pagdayeg 2026" event, underscores a robust partnership focused on educational advancement and community service.
Celebrating a Strong Collaborative Effort
The award highlights the enduring alliance between DSWD 7 and CTU–Argao, primarily through the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program (TBTP), which aims to enhance education and community outreach. According to university officials, this accolade serves as a tribute to the collective dedication and efficiency demonstrated in empowering communities via collaborative initiatives.
Aligned with Academic Excellence and Public Service
This ceremony was integrated into CTU–Argao's 81st anniversary under the theme "Continuing Tradition, Upholding Advancement and Competence," reflecting the campus's ongoing commitment to academic excellence, professional growth, and public service. Since joining the TBTP in 2025, CTU–Argao has emerged as an active partner higher education institution, significantly contributing to literacy development.
Impactful Program Implementation
In its inaugural year, the program mobilized 72 college students as tutors and youth development workers, providing crucial support to 240 children struggling with reading to improve their literacy skills. Additionally, 238 parents received training in practical methods to sustain their children's learning at home and enhance effective parenting through specialized learning sessions.
Continued Support and Future Opportunities
Due to the program's success, CTU–Argao has pledged ongoing support for the TBTP in 2026 and has opened applications for students interested in participating in the next implementation phase. University leaders emphasize that this partnership exemplifies how education can serve as a powerful tool for lasting change when institutions unite for a common goal.
