DepEd Naga Issues Official Statement to Correct Social Media Misinformation
The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of the City of Naga has released a formal clarification to address and correct false information that spread across social media platforms. The rumors in question alleged that Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro arrived late to the opening ceremony of the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) meet, thereby causing a delay in the scheduled parade and program commencement.
Setting the Record Straight on Governor's Attendance
In its official statement, the DepEd Naga City Division explicitly stated that Governor Baricuatro did not arrive late to the event. The department clarified that the governor and her staff adhered precisely to the designated arrival time provided to them by the event organizers. Furthermore, it was confirmed that Governor Baricuatro had been previously notified to arrive at the start of the parade and was, in fact, waiting in the designated VIP assembly area to join the Cebu Province delegation before the proceedings began.
Details of the CVIRAA Meet and Call for Responsible Sharing
The CVIRAA meet, a significant regional sporting event for Central Visayas, was held from March 22 to March 27, 2026. It featured athletes from across the region competing in various strength and athletic competitions. In light of the misinformation, Atty. Leviticus Barazon Jr., the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd City of Naga, took the opportunity to remind the public to avoid spreading unverified information. He emphasized that such rumors can overshadow the hard-earned victories and dedicated efforts of the student-athletes who participated in the event.
Atty. Barazon also extended his gratitude to all supporters and visitors who contributed to the success of the program, highlighting their role in celebrating the achievements of Central Visayas students. This incident underscores the ongoing challenge of misinformation on social media and the importance of relying on official sources for accurate news, especially concerning public figures and community events.
