Army Unit Brings Joy and Learning to Sulu Island Pupils

Seventy young learners from a remote island municipality in Sulu experienced a day of joy and educational support this week. The initiative, a Book Giving and Feeding Activity, was conducted on Monday, November 24, 2025, by the 104th Infantry Battalion (104IB) for the pupils of Likud Elementary School in the island town of Pata.

Strengthening Community Ties Through Education

According to Lieutenant Colonel Roy Dalumpines, the commander of the 104IB, the activity held on Tuesday, November 25, was designed with multiple goals in mind. The primary aims were to promote literacy among the youth, strengthen community relations between the military and local residents, and bring genuine happiness to the children through meaningful engagement. Dalumpines reported that the event was a resounding success, with the school grounds filled with the sounds of smiles, laughter, and gratitude as the children received new books and enjoyed a specially prepared hearty meal.

A Collaborative Effort for a Brighter Future

The success of the outreach program was made possible through a strong partnership. The 104IB worked hand-in-hand with the Bato Balani Foundation Incorporated, local school officials and teachers, village and municipal leaders, and even community leaders from the Moro National Liberation Front. This diverse collaboration highlights a unified front in supporting the community's youth. Pata, the beneficiary municipality, is a 5th class municipality consisting of 14 villages and has a population of 27,974 people according to the latest 2024 census. Lieutenant Colonel Dalumpines emphasized that this joint effort reflects a shared commitment to empowering the youth and collectively working towards a brighter future for the next generation.
