A significant boost for technical education arrived in Zamboanga City as a new, state-of-the-art school building was formally handed over to a major public high school.
Multi-Million Peso Facility for Skills Development
Security Bank Foundation Inc. officially turned over a P18.2-million school facility to Zamboanga City High School (ZCHS)-Main in Tetuan village on Friday, December 5, 2025. The two-story structure, which houses six new classrooms, is specifically designed to enhance the school's Technical and Livelihood Education (TLE) programs.
The construction of the building took place from April 21 to December 1, 2025. It will serve junior high school students specializing in critical skills areas such as caregiving, dressmaking, drafting, cookery, and other related technical fields.
A Collaborative Effort for Education
This vital project was not achieved by a single entity. It was made possible through a powerful collaboration between the Security Bank Foundation, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle Philippines Inc., the Department of Education Schools Division of Zamboanga City, and the Zamboanga City local government.
During the turnover ceremony, Mayor Khymer Olaso expressed profound gratitude to the foundation and all partner stakeholders. He emphasized that this donation is a direct investment in the academic welfare and future readiness of Zamboangueño youth, strengthening the city's education sector.
Mayor's On-Site Inspection and Immediate Action
Mayor Olaso's involvement went beyond ceremonial duties. He conducted a thorough inspection of the school premises to identify other areas needing government support. His attention to detail led to an immediate directive upon seeing a stockpile of broken armchairs.
The mayor instructed City General Services Officer Rene Dela Cruz and personnel from the City Engineer's Office to assess and repair all salvageable units. The goal is to refurbish and reuse them, ensuring continued benefit for students and maximizing resources.
Adding a personal and joyful touch to the event, Mayor Olaso lightened the atmosphere by interacting with teachers and students. He even shared a brief dance to his signature "Opalite" tune, much to the crowd's delight.
The formal turnover of the building's symbolic key was led by Security Bank Foundation Inc. chairperson Rafael Simpao Jr., who presented it to ZCHS-Main Principal Anna Bella Espinosa. The ceremony was also attended by chief of staff and secretary to the Mayor Celso Lobregat, Tetuan village chairperson Richard Mariano, alongside ZCHS-Main faculty, students, and key officials from the foundation.
