Barbra Streisand has announced that she will no longer attend the Cannes Film Festival on May 23, where she was scheduled to receive an honorary Palme d'Or. The 84-year-old legendary singer and actress cited her doctor's advice against traveling as she continues recovering from a knee injury.
Statement from Streisand
In a statement dated May 17, the 'A Star Is Born' actress said: 'On the advice of my doctors, as I continue recovering from a knee injury, I am sadly unable to attend the Festival de Cannes this year.' She added, 'However, I am deeply honored to receive the honorary Palme d'Or and have so been looking forward to celebrating the remarkable films of the 79th edition.'
Streisand did not provide further details on when or how the injury occurred, nor the severity of her condition. The honorary Palme d'Or is the festival's highest tribute, awarded to figures who have made a significant impact on cinema.
This cancellation marks a rare absence for Streisand, who has been a prominent figure in entertainment for decades. Fans and festival organizers alike expressed disappointment but understanding, wishing her a speedy recovery.
